Video 1 Inferences

• The man's voice directs the video to a wide variety of audiences.
• The frying of an egg represents the frying of your brain if using drugs.
• You are focused on every detail of the egg being fried since it is the only image in sight, so you are concentrating on what could happen to your brain.
• You watch the egg being fried from beginning to end just in eleven seconds maybe to represent your brain will fry quick when using drugs.
• The only point it gets across is that your brain is fried if you use drugs.

Video 2 Inferences

• Rachel Lee Cook presents herself youthful directing the video to the young adult/teenage audience.
• The egg(your brain) is destroyed by the skillet(heroin) which shows the dangerous affects the drug has on you.
• She doesn't just smash the egg, she smashes the dinner plates, drinking glasses, and the clock trying to get the point across that the drug doesn't just affect users, but everyone who is associated with them.
• During this PSA, there is a close shot of the gooey yellow liquid that splurges down her hand which intensifies the visual affect of what happens to your brain when using drugs.

Both of these videos have a visual affect on the outcome when using drugs. These PSA's, filmed at least a decade apart, use the same metaphor, an egg representing your brain while a frying pan represents the drug. Both videos try to grasp the meaning that drugs will destroy the human brain. Even though they have similarities, these videos have multiple discrepancies. The first video has a man stating the meaning of the commercial, but the more recent commercial has the star Rachel Lee Cook speaking and acting in the video. This alternates the intended audience. The newer video portrays a less broadened audience than the older video because Rachel Lee Cook depicts an young adult or teenager, which in this case is the aimed audience. The recent video captures a deeper meaning because instead of focusing on one affect from drugs, it displays numerous affects. The newer video not only concentrates on what happens to your brain from abusing drugs, but the impacts it causes on others surrounded by you. This video is more extended showing additional details. For example, the Filmer zooms in on Rachel after she whacks the egg with the skillet showing off the aftermath of her actions. This helps one visualize and understand what drugs, specifically heroin, can cause to your brain. Overall, you can see in the two different time periods (each PSA representing a different time period) how society's views on drugs have modified. Obviously, people's addiction to drugs increased and addicts were taken more seriously. As you can see through the vast distinction from the first commercial to the updated commercial, drugs became a larger issue.
